Roulette call bets explained

Roulette call bets and announced bets are available only in European roulette (it is most common for French roulette, especially as most call bets have French names). Call bets are actually prohibited at the US and UK casinos where they are considered 'bets made on credit'.

To make announced bets, the player is supposed to say it out loud before the ball on the spinning wheel lands into any of the pockets. The money covering the bet is to be placed on the table layout. In fact, both call and announced bets in roulette are often combined under the name of roulette call bets.

Due to the fact roulette call bets are most commonly found in French roulette, they are often called "the French bets". These bets are actually based on the specific arrangement of numbers on the European (and French) roulette wheel.

Voisins du zero

Voisins du zero (also known as the "neighbors of the zero") are roulette call bets made on the 17 numbers that are situated between the numbers 22 and 25 on the wheel. '0', 22 and 25 are actually included in the bet. These numbers happen to surround a zero pocket: 0 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 7 - 12 - 15 - 18 - 19 - 21 - 22 - 25 - 26 - 28 - 29 - 32 - 35.

For this bet the player is required to place a total of 9 chips - two on '0', 2 and 3, one on a Split of 4-7, one on 12-15, one on 18-21, one on 19-22, one on a Corner of 25-26-28-29 and one on 32-35.

Tiers

Due to the French roulette rules, Tiers or the Third ones is a bet on 12 numbers placed on the side of the wheel opposing the zero - the ones between numbers 27 and 33: 5 - 8 - 10 - 11 - 13 - 16 - 23 - 24 - 26 - 27 - 30 - 33. The player has to place 6 chips - one for each of the Splits (5-8, 10-11, 13-16, 23-24, 27-30, and 33-36).

Jeu zero

Jeu zero or zero game bet is made on 7 numbers that are closest to the zero (including the zero itself) - 12- 35 - 3 - 26 - 0 - 32 - 15. The player needs 4 chips - one on Split of 0-3, one on Split of 12-15, one on 26 and one on Split of 32-35.

Jeu zero is one of the most popular roulette call bets in Eastern Europe.

Orphelins

Orphelins or orphans mean the bet on 8 numbers that were not included in other bets: 1 - 6 - 9 - 14 - 17 - 20 - 31 - 34. The player places 5 chips - one on 1 and the rest on each Split - 6-9, 14-17, 17-20 and 31-34.

Finales

  • Finales en Plein: this is actually a bet on numbers that end with any certain digit, for example, 5, 15, 25 and 35, etc.
  • Finales a Cheval is a bet made on numbers that end in two digits, like 1 and 3 - 1, 3, 11, 13, 21, 23, 31, 33, etc.

XX and its neighbors

This is a bet made on a certain number and two numbers that surround it on each side. E.g. the player may bet on o and neighbors - numbers 3 - 26 - 32 - 15 plus a zero itself.

Even though roulette call bets might sound too complicated, in practice they are quite easy to understand and memorize, especially if you play French roulette at online casinos, where you only need to press the 'Call Bets' button and choose from the list of all call bets available.
