Roulette game process

The main objective of roulette casino game is to place your bets on any of the numbers or groups of numbers on the roulette table layout that you think have chances to be winning. Due to the rules defining how to play roulette, the players may bet on any given number on the layout or on a group of numbers. There are also bets on red/black color, even/odd and high/low numbers.

To define the winning number, the croupier spins the roulette wheel and launches the ball in direction opposite to the wheel's movement. The numbers on 37 (as in European and French roulette) or 38 (according to the American roulette rules) pockets on the wheel correspond to those on the layout. The ball will stop in any of the pockets. The number the pocket represent will be the winning number. After the winning number is announced, the croupier pays out the winnings and removes the lost bets.

Roulette wheel

According to the rules defining how to play roulette, the wheel is spun to determine the winning numbers. Roulette wheel has a whole set of black and red color numbered pockets. The numbers are arranged in certain sequences. There are actually 36 numbered pockets on each roulette wheel, either in European or American roulette. The primary difference between wheels in different roulette games consists in the number of zero pockets:

  • The wheel in European roulette has a single zero pocket. This makes European roulette much more profitable than its American counterpart as it allows reducing the house edge.
  • American wheel introduces two pockets for zero - '0' and '00'. This increases the American roulette house edge to approximately 5.26%.
  • There are no zero pockets in No Zero roulette at all, which turns off the house edge for this roulette game.

Roulette table layout

The roulette table layout is divided into two sections - inner and outer. The inner section introduces numbers corresponding to those on the wheel from 1 to 36 and a single zero (European game variant) or two zeros - '0' and '00' (American roulette). The outer section represents groups of numbers the player may bet on - 1st, 2nd and 3rd twelve numbers, low numbers from 1 to 18 and high numbers from 19 to 36, Even or Odd and Red or Black. The two sections on the roulette table define the basic types of bets in roulette - inside bets and outside bets.

Roulette chips

To make their bets the players are to place different color chips on certain numbers or areas on the table layout. Every player gets chips of a certain color, which prevents confusion at the table. The chips are then exchanged for cash if the bet wins. This should be done before leaving the table.
